CHICKADEES IN WINTER

One of several savvy species of bird                                                                             that are willing to put up with Canadian winters.

 Why?
Because they know where the food is!

 These photos were taken at Cootes Paradise                                                         and the Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton, Ontario.

This little guy just snuck in for the free food as well as the free portrait.  A win win situation if you ask me.

FROZEN WATERFALL, Tiffany Falls in Winter

Hamilton, Ontario is known as the waterfall capital of the globe since more than 100 separate waterways tumble over the edge of the Niagara Escarpment within its municipal boundaries.

Tiffany Falls, pictured here, at 6.5 metres and Tewes Falls at almost three times that height, are the only places in Hamilton where ice climbing is permitted.

 Many of the waterfalls are along popular hiking trails making up part of the Bruce Trail system.  Even longtime residents of the area never seem to get enough of these magificent views.

 I can't wait to see this during the spring thaw but I hope to get out several more times this season to photograph its slowly evolving winter face as well.

 These were all taken at the annual fall flower show at the Gage Park Greenhouses in Hamilton, Ontario.

I wouldn't have thought this would be something that would catch my eye but the colours and contrasts really draw me in.  

From landscape shots to macro close-ups.

 This show was an opportunity to do it all.

RIO DE JANIERO

And now for something a bit warmer than what we're seeing outside here at home in Canada.

                                    These shots were taken a couple of years back just before Christmas on and around the beaches of Rio.
